Episode one
It was on the eve of their wedding day. Alex woke up with a delightful mood. He was in his early 30s. He was tall, and most of all, very handsome. Marie his wife to be had the qualities that every responsible man will want in a woman. Her height was moderate. Her light brown skin suited her perfectly.
The morning wind blew from north to south, giving a very good natural sensation on the skin. Marie watched as Alex got dressed in his black suit, and a brown necktie.
"You never told me you will be going out this morning". Marie muttered under her breath.
"I never did? Oh! I thought I did". Alex replied tersely
"Why not at least have breakfast before going to wherever you want honey. It's too cold to drive with an empty stomach" Marie uttered softly.
This time, Alex was done dressing. He moved closer to where she (Marie) laid on the bed. Holding her hand, he drawled, stretching out the words,
"It's not like that honey. I'm going to meet Kingsley for something very important. It won't take more than thirty minutes. I promise".
"I thought you guys met yesterday before...
"We did" Alex interrupted...
"There's something we couldn't conclude. Tomorrow is our wedding. Our beautiful wedding. Everything needs to be in order". Alex concluded as he kissed her hand and left the room. She watched as he shut the door after her and waved dismissively as he walked out.
Kingsley and Alex were very good friends right from their primary school days. It was for that same reason that Alex wanted him to be his best man for the wedding. Not just being the best man. They planned the whole wedding arrangements and schedules together.
Within five minutes after Alex left home, he was already at Kingsley's place. The very moment he knocked at the door, Kingsley opened as if he was waiting for him all night.
"Hi Alex...
Hi Kingsley".
"You never told me you were coming". Added Kingsley.
"Yeah! I didn't but, I need just a twenty minutes briefing on how tomorrow will gonna be...
" You would have called me! " Kingsley breathed his voice slowly.
" I wanted it to be in person... " Alex replied,
" Just get on it. I promised Marie that I will be back within thirty minutes time ". Alex concluded as Kingsley moved to his inner room to get some of the schedules and agendas he had on paper For the next day's wedding.
It was a court wedding and everything needs to be in place for the procedures to move smoothly.
While Kingsley was away, Alex moved to the fridge to get a glass of juice for himself. But he couldn't find anything soft if not only alcoholic drinks.
Few minutes later, Kingsley walked in with the schedules, surprised, his friend already had a glass of alcoholic wine in front of him.
"I can see that you are making yourself comfortable with a glass of wine..." Kingsley interrupted immediately he got in from the door...
" For god's sake bro, that's alcohol and it's too early for that. Why not take our favorite juice. I ordered it yesterday and it should be around somewhere ".
I haven't even tasted this wine. I was just about taking a sip when you walked in...
" That's right. Let me get the juice for you ". Kingsley said as he walked in his room and brought out a single glass of wine for his friend who was enthusiastically waiting.
Within minutes, the two friends were on the peak of their discussion.
Just as Alex promised, he tried not to spend more than thirty minutes in his friend's place.
Marie, who was almost done preparing breakfast rushed out immediately he heard the sound of Alex's car.
The car engine stopped and Alex tried opening it's door to feel the warm embrace of his wife but he couldn't find the strength he used to get in from Kingsley's house.
Though he managed to open the door but he couldn't move three to four steps to Marie before he collapsed...

Episode two
"Alex! Alex!!" Marie called, running to the direction he was on the ground. Her heart sank like a stone, her eyes flashed with fear as she ran towards him trying to raise him from the ground. She felt a cold dread creeping up her spine as Alex laid helplessly with a whitish formation in his mouth and nose.
"Somebody help me!" She exclaimed, tumbling out her words in a rush.
"Alex please wake up!" She repeated when she couldn't find any help nearby.
With the little strength in her, she managed to put him at the car's back seat. She almost left without putting out the fire from the cook. Luckily, it flashed back in her memory that she was cooking before Alex drove in. She then rushed in to put it out before driving as fast as she could to the hospital.
At the hospital, Marie could not help control her tears. She wondered what could have been Alex's disruptor of health but there was no one to give an answer to the questions in her heart except the test results that the doctor would present.
Tears welled down her eyes as she wondered what she would do if anything were to happen to Alex. Probably, the only man she loved leaving this world when it was just few hours to their wedding, that was never what she or anyone would expect.
As she sat pondering on what her contribution would be for Alex to get back on his feet soundly, The doctor in charge of Alex walked in with the test results in hand.
He stood for a while without saying a word to her. After which he made a call and asked her to follow him to his office.
"From the test results ma'am, it showed clearly that your husband took some kind of deadly poison by exactly 7:45 AM today...
"Poison? How? Where?" Marie exclaimed in shock.
"That's exactly the question... How and Where. By 7:45 AM, I believe your husband was at home because it's just thirty minutes past eight. How then did you expect me to think otherwise?
It took less than twenty minutes for the poison to spread through his entire body, including his brain. Though, luckily, he hasn't lost his memory. Go talk to him and see if there's anything he can say to you.
From what I can say so far, you are the primary suspect. I called the cops and the are already on their way here".
Marie was dumbfounded. She couldn't pick any reasonable meaning from what the doctor said. The incident made her to forget ever waving goodbye to Alex before he left home that morning. And that it was immediately after he returned that he went off his toes.
A nurse was assigned to watch over her so she wouldn't sneak out. When she got to Alex, his condition seemed critical. The pressure in his blood stream forced his veins to contrast, shooting out greenish vein's signs on his outer skin.
Immediately she set her eyes on him, she knew he wouldn't make it. On the eve of their wedding day and her fiance got poisoned. She broke down in tears when she couldn't align with the situation.
"Marie is that you?" Alex managed to force some words out, but Marie couldn't say a word. All she could do was watch her dying fiance without knowing what to say that will at least give him some strength.
"Honey? Don't cry!" Alex managed to speak again...
"The doctor said I was poison and I have 0.01 percent of surviving. That's to say that I'm dead already. He only said that to assure me that he will do his best, but whatsoever happens, you need to be strong... Tell my mom and sister that I love them so much. And I will always love them even in death...
" How were you poisoned when I don't remember preparing any food for you? " Marie interrupted...
" I... I... I don't know " Alex stammered...
But I don't remember taking anything from anyone apart from the juice I took when I went to visit Kingsley. But the truth is, Kingsley will never poison me. At least not today. If only he wanted to poison, it wouldn't have been today. Moreover, I went to his house unannounced.
I know the cops will be called on you and they will try asking you some questions about the poison. Please tell them I left home as early as 7:20 AM, and I failed to tell you where I was going. If they fail to believe you, show them the CCTV footage... "
It took not more than 20 minutes for Alex to pass away after Marie went in to talk to him. Before she could even have the time to mourn him or even call a lawyer, the cops took him to the station for questioning.

Episode three
When it seemed Marie will at least respect Alex's last wish, she couldn't because of the pressure on her. She was about to be arrested and detained for what she believed she knew nothing of. She was left with no other option than to come forward with the truth about the incident that took place that morning.
It was a quarter past ten when Marie led the police to Kingsley's house that morning. By the time they could get to him, he was already dressed and was about leaving the compound. Marie and the police's visit was a surprise to him. He froze immediately he saw them entering the compound with Marie.
"Officers! This is the man". Marie's voice came in, tumbling like a thunder. Her eyes locked onto his as she spoke.
"What's going on Marie". Kingsley asked when he couldn't pick any meaning from the scene. He had no idea Alex was dead, and he never thought it was after he left his house that the unexpected happened.
Could it be that he was just pretending not to know the reason behind the police's arrival, or he only wanted to pretend he knew nothing about Alex's death?
"Mr. Kingsley". The officer in charge spoke up.
"You are under arrest for charges against murder".
"I'm sorry officer. There might have been a mistake somewhere. Maybe there's another Kingsley out there who is responsible for this crime? To be frank with you sir, I don't know...
"You have the right to remain silent or whatsoever you say or do will be used against you in the court of law". The chief officer interrupted again.
"Marie what is going on?"
"Alex is dead".
" Alex is dead... How?
"The same reason we are here, and only you can tell us the truth".
The death of Alex came as a surprise to Kingsley. Who knows if Alex was poisoned before he got to Kingsley's house or even after he left. From how Kingsley reacted to the news, he might not know anything about Alex's death, or maybe he was just pretending.
It didn't take long for the rumor about Alex's death to spread throughout the city like a wildfire. The next day was supposed to be his wedding. His neighbors, friends, families and youths were all prepared to be part of the guests that would be welcome at his wedding. Why the sudden death? The couldn't believe why death had to take him away without absolute cause.
The other rumor had it that Kingsley was the villain. The name Kingsley been mentioned concerning such an act was the last they ever wished to hear. Kingsley of all people been the primary suspect for such a crime?
While growing up, Alex and Kingsley were always considered as siblings. It was even after they grew and became adults that most people knew about their differences. Why then will Kingsley poison him? Could it be out of jealousy? Probably not. Kingsley was as rich as Alex was. He was not bad looking either.
He was the only child of his aged mom. Why then will he try committing a crime he might be arrested and imprisoned forever. Moreover Alex was also an only son. Though he had a younger sister.
With all this questions in mind, the people couldn't give a meaning to all that was going on. The police's genuine investigation was all they looked forward to, And they hoped it to be true without forgery.
At the station, Kingsley could not help but believe, the whole arrest, the whole rumor about Alex's death was just a way of surprising him. He never believed it to be true. It was after his lawyer walked into the detective room and explained everything to him that he believed his daydream was a reality.
"How then am I going to be free from this accusation. I didn't do it". Kingsley declared with conviction...
" Right now, you need to be strong. We are talking about your friend's murder. You will have to be strong and cooperate with me. If not, you will be imprisoned for a crime you know nothing of.
Right now, the police is leading an investigation to your house, they will be carrying along with them a doctor. I will have to be among the investigating team because I don't trust them either ". Barrister Josh said.
He was their family doctor right from the time Kingsley's dad was alive.
It took only few minutes for the investigating team to get to Kingsley's house. After a thorough search, no trace of poison was found in the juice Alex took after all. They were about leaving when the doctor decided to check the alcoholic drinks also, only to find out that the poison was accumulated in the alcoholic wine, Alex said he never sipped.

Episode four
How else would Kingsley explain in the court that he was not aware Alex had a sip of the wine that was poisoned by an unknown person in his house? How then will he explain that he was the one that took the alcoholic wine from his presence and presented him with his favorite juice?
Probably, no one will believe him when the same toxic that was found in Alex was also found in his house. The worst part was, his house had no CCTVs like Alex's. The whole situation became complicated for Kingsley. He wished someone wakes him from the dream, but nothing seemed like a dream. It was happening and he was watching everything with his two kolo kolo eyes.
"Did you have any disagreement with anyone, to a point you think he or she will do anything to harm you?
From the look of things, and from your story, Alex served as a scape goat. Who then do you think will be responsible for the poison?" Barrister Josh asked, when he was done narrating the incident that took place at Kingsley's house, and how they ended up finding the trace of the poison in the alcoholic wine.
" All my life, I tried everything possible to make sure I avoid been in company of many people... "Kingsley stated frankly collecting his thoughts...
" I grew Up With Alex considering him as my family. I tried my best not to have any dealing with anyone else except the people I work with. But here I am, accused of murdering the one person I considered as family. How then will I face Alex's mom when that woman has done everything to see me happy".
Tears welled from Kingsley's eyes as he tried saying the little he knew. Barrister Josh could not help but only give him the hope that he will vindicate him.
Immediately the news about Alex's death got to his mom, she fainted instantly. It was no good news to the sister either. Preparing yourself with the best outfit to put on, on your brother's wedding which will take place a day later and the worst happened? Chaii, it was a heart breaking news. A news that will make any mom unconscious.
It was after a few hours that she woke up at the hospital. By the time she regained consciousness, the rest of the family was beside her. Marie, and her youngest daughter Kate. She thought everything will become a prank and by the time she will wake up, Alex will be beside him but, he was still no where around.
"Where's Alex! Where's Alex!!" She exclaimed in a deep mournful voice. Neither Marie nor Kate would say a word to her as they were also covered in tears.
Minutes after 5:00pm, the rest of the family went to have a conversation with Kingsley, led by Alex's mom. She couldn't hesitate to look Kingsley in the face and ask why he killed his only son with poison. A woman's weapon.
The sun was already giving a change in color. From yellow to red. The evening wind blew with a lot of freshness giving a mind-blowing feeling but Kingsley wasn't outside to enjoy the cool nature. Locked in cell with little ventilation, his body was covered with sweat as he was not used to such heat. What else could he do, he had to wait till the jury decides when his first trial will be.
It took just few minutes for Alex's mom and the rest of the family to get to the station. By the time she was brought before Kingsley, he was too ashamed to look directly at her face. It swore, only after few hours of mourning her son.
"Just tell me you didn't do it". Alex's mom said as she locked her eyes on him as she spoke...
" Just tell me you didn't do it Kingsley....
"I swear I didn't do it... I swear... I swear" Kingsley said in anguish...
" And you expect me to believe you? Why Kingsley? Why?"
Their conversation went on for a while before she was called out. Next was Kate, what was she going to say. In the other way round, she was the only person, as part of the family that believed Kingsley was innocent. But how was he going to say it in her mom's face without concrete evidence.
It turned out that the two were lovers. Kingsley and Kate has been dating for a while but he never wanted Alex to know something until the right time. The whole arrangement was to propose to her after Alex's wedding when the whole guests would be present. He wanted it to be a surprise to their mom, as she always said she will be the first person to know if Kate were to ever be in a relationship. Little did they know that she was already aware of their relationship.
As she walked out, she went straight to her daughter Kate and whispered to her, "you should go talk to him. For the love he have for you, he might tell you the truth". Kate on the other hand knew not of what to say to Kingsley. Whether to hate him for been a suspect in her brother's murder case or to stand by him in seeking justice for her brother. But what if Kingsley turn out to be the villain after all? She thought. Whatever finding she had to, Kate decided to do it on her own to seek justice for her brother. If possible, clear her lover's name.

Episode five
A week later, Alex's murder case was presented in court. Though Kingsley claimed to be innocent but there was no concrete evidence to back up his claim. Just in a flick of an eye, Alex and Marie's wedding became a history. A history that could only be told among young men and women about a man who got poisoned few hours to his wedding.
Who knows what she (Marie) had in mind if she were to be given an opportunity to do to Kingsley whatever she felt like? Probably, she would be willing to stab him through the chest, pull out his heart and feed dogs.
At the court's first hearing considering Alex's case, Marie was asked, as Alex's fiancee to share her thoughts about why Kingsley, if he were to be the real culprit, would decide to poison Alex.
In her narration, she shared a story. A story no one present knew of, except she and Kingsley as she claimed. She said,
"If Kingsley denies poisoning my husband, then he is the worst liar ever. Before I first met Alex, Kingsley approached me first but I turned him down. There is no doubt he poisoned Alex out of jealousy. A way of getting back at me for turning him down".
The whole hearing went black out by the time Marie was done speaking. If only Kingsley was given an opportunity to say if Marie's story was true or not, he might have had one or two things to say.
It won't be her fault even if she decides to use a fake story to implicate Kingsley. He was the first and last person Alex visited that morning as far as she could tell. There is no doubt she would want him to pass through hell simply because she believed he deprived her of having a happy life together with Alex.
With Marie's new storyline, the rope was already on Kingsley's neck and it was only left for it to be tightened so it could hook and seize his breath.
The chief justice could not say further. He couldn't just sentence Kingsley to his punishment when he had reasons to believe he might be framed, or Alex served as a scape goat. For some reasons, he shifted the court's last hearing and it was fo be in three months time.
For three months, Kingsley was to stay in custody. How then will his mom feel?
When the news about Kingsley arrest got to his mom, she wasn't in her right state of mind. She was present during Kingsley's first trial. After the hearing was dismissed and Kingsley was sentenced to three more months before his final trial, she collapsed before her son would be taken out of her presence.
It was hard for Kingsley to watch as his mom became unconscious without he rendering some help as he was bereaved of going close to her. Let alone touching her.
Immediately she collapsed, she was rushed to the hospital. I didn't take long before news got to Kingsley that she passed away before they could even get to the hospital.
Why then would Kingsley ever pray been set free from his punishment? He blamed himself for his mom's sudden death even though he never wished for any of that to happen. First, it was a friend he considered as family and he was the primary suspect. The same reason his mom passed away, because he was a primary suspect and he was arrested for the same cause. What then was the worst that he was yet to encounter.
All that Kingsley ever tried to build was finally falling apart. His hope was lost the moment his mom passed away. His fate was to be decided in three months time, and when it's time, whatever barrister Josh tries to unfold will determine if he was innocent or not...

Episode six
"Why would Marie say she had an affair with Kingsley before bro Alex, mom". Kate said recalling Marie's story.
" Why would she say such a thing when Kingsley's life is in danger. Is it that she doesn't care or what?
" Hey Katerina!" Her mom, Mrs Rose interrupted...
"You shouldn't be offended about what she said earlier. Who knows if she was telling the truth? She might be. But that doesn't change the fact that Kingsley might be innocent. If he is, then he will surely be vindicated in due time...
" Mummy you are getting this whole stuff wrongly. We are talking about your son's murderer. My only brother's murderer. Won't you be happy if the real culprit is punished according to the law?
"Why won't I" Mrs Rose replied tersely.
"Then come to think of how Kingsley will feel when news gets to him that his mom wasn't able to make it to the hospital...
" Ay! I thought it was just a minor shock. Aya! Poor woman".
" Did you think Kingsley will do evil, knowing fully well that he's the only one his mom got? Absolutely No! No one will ever do that. Not even the devil himself. I never liked Marie immediately this whole poison stuff started. I suspected her from the beginning, but I was proved wrong when I was told the poisoned drink was found in Kingsley's home and he accepted it belonged to him. But that explain one thing to me. Kingsley was the target but bro Alex fell for what was not his because that was the limit of his breathe. He is a scapegoat in this issue mom!
"Don't even go there. I know you love him but how are you going to justify that?"
They were in the middle of their conversation when the door suddenly burst open, and Marie walked in with the meal she prepared for dinner as she headed to the dinning table. Their eyes locked together as they watched her speechlessly, pretending she wasn't their topic of discussion.
"Ah mom. I just got a call from a friend and I'm to meet her right. You two can carry on with the dinner. I will be back later. You guys shouldn't keep some for me. She's probably gonna feed me...
"Come on Kate. It's already half past seven. It's risky going out right now. Regarding the current issue at hand". Marie said.
"She's right Kate. You shouldn't be pretending just because you don't want to eat her food. She's not that kind of person". Kate's mom said in a low tune so she alone can hear her.
Her mom was right though. She thought. Even if she considers Marie as a bad person, she wouldn't poison her directly. It was only left for her to be careful since she never trusted her.
While at the dinning table, Kate pretended to be enjoying the food even though she wasn't. To a point she faked a smile when her mom complimented Marie about the meal.
It took a while before they were done eating. But it wasn't the way it usually was when they do visits when Alex was alive.
Kate was about to leave the table when Marie spoke up.
"You think I lied about meeting with Kingsley before Alex right? I didn't. Though I never knew you two were in love".
Pulling out a paper, she gave it to Mrs Rose. Immediately she glanced through it, a smile ran through her face like a streak of red oil on a white cloth. She exclaimed with joy immediately as she hugged her.
Kate couldn't resist knowing the contents of letter. And why her mom would be so happy.
"I never knew my Alex will be back again". Mrs Rose said...
"Thank you God for bringing back joy into my life".
It was a pregnancy test result indicating that Marie was three weeks pregnant.
"I wasn't lying about my first encounter with Kingsley". Marie said again.
"I only wanted Justice for the father of my unborn child. Though I never intended to make things worse. I never knew his mom will collapse either...
"But she's now dead". Kate interrupted.
"The same reason I regret saying it in the first place. Please forgive me for saying the truth. If truly Kingsley is innocent, I pray he's given the justice he deserves when the real culprit has been found".
"And he surely will". Kate said as she walked out.
The long night hours passed without Kate freeing herself from that day's thoughts. She blamed herself for not trusting Marie when she seemed not to wish for any of that to happen. But one thing for sure, she decided to keep to her thoughts in finding the truth...

Episode seven
Two days passed, but Kate could not stop worrying about how Kingsley will be feeling knowing that his mom, the only one he got passed away when she couldn't resist the shock. The thoughts of not going to see him could no longer have effects on her.
On the third day, she had a thought on how to go about in finding the truth. "Barrister Josh has been on this issue trying everything possible to save Kingsley from the punishment he's passing through. If I work with him, it will go a long way in finding the truth". She thought when on her bed that morning.
" But first, I will have to see Kingsley and see, if I could get to know the last people that visited before the incident ". She murmured as she quickly jumped out of her bed and headed to the kitchen to prepare a meal she could take to him.
By exactly 10:25am, Kate was already done with the necessary preparations before going to see Kingsley. By the time she arrived, it was hard for the officers in charge to let her in without she tasting the food. Regarding the issue Kingsley was in, they believed whoever he was working with will like to silence him so they won't be implicated.
Kate on the other couldn't resist as she had no bad intention against Kingsley. Neither the heart of hurting anyone. By the time she got to Kingsley, she couldn't believe her eyes. The Kingsley she knew was times two in size, of the Kingsley she saw.
She got to realize that, after news got to him that his mom couldn't make it to the hospital, he refused eating anything brought before him. Even when he was forced to, he rather wished to be beaten to death than to eat anything. He considered himself a dead man. All he was waiting for, was for death to claim his life.
It took a while before Kate could make him rise up his head to look at her. Tears rolled down on his cheeks as he twisted his face in anguish while looking at Kate who was trying everything possible to make him cheer up.
"Why did you come here?" He finally spoke up.
"You shouldn't have come. I'm a murderer, and I don't need to be in company of old friends. This is where I belong...
" I don't believe you can ever hurt anyone ". Kate tried giving some hope.
" If you don't believe I can ever hurt anyone then why am I here? This lonely place? No Alex around. No mom to make proud? Why I'm I here?"
" Shhhh... " Kate silenced as he kissed him deeply.
" You don't have to worry. I swear! I will do anything in my power to help you out. I swear!
"What do you plan doing? No one ever believed me... I was scared, I've lose you also. I never thought you will have faith in me. I'm sorry...
" You don't have to. I'm the one to say I'm sorry. For my brother's sake. For Alex's sake. We are sorry for your loss. If only he have the power to rise from the dead and tell everyone that you are innocent, it wouldn't have been this tough. You don't have to punish yourself just because of something you never planned. All that happened was an accident. The best we can do is to put heads together and stop what will happen in future. We can't change the past, but we can change the future. We don't know who these people's next target is. It might be someone we don't know. It might be someone we all know. Someone we have to heart. But whoever the target is, he/she doesn't have to be cut short from this world. everyone has the freedom to life. No one needs to be assaulted in such a way...
"Where then do you want to start?" Kingsley interrupted.
"If you can list the names of the last people that visited as of that week before the incident, maybe barrister Josh will have one or two ways in finding the truth ".
" If I could recall very well, the only person that visited that week was Alex. We were making the wedding preparations together...
" Marie? "
" Marie never visited. Infact, we were never friends. There was something about Marie that I never understood. I wanted to tell Alex but I never knew how to start. Because I only had the feeling. I wasn't sure if I was right...
"So she never visited?".
"I don't even think she has ever drove passed my gate. Ooh your mom...
" My mom did what? "...
There conversation was interrupted by the sound of the door.
" Your time is off ma". The officer in charge said as he couldn't give even a second to Kingsley. He dragged him back to his cell. Thereby preventing him from saying all he intended saying.
A long discussion with Kingsley that day gave Kate some morale to try her best in letting the cat out of the bag. But, what was it about her mom that Kingsley intended saying? She thought... Was Kingsley afraid of saying he asked Marie out but she turned him down but fell for her brother? Was that the reason he said she never drove passed his gate? What was it about her that he said, he never understood but knew not of how to say it to Alex?
When Kate thought she had the morale to get to the root of the whole issue, it seemed she found herself in the middle of a deep hole with no step to climb on...

Episode eight
A new day was born with a tremendous change in Kate. By the time she was awake, the only words her ears longed to hear were that of Kingsley which he intended saying about her mom.
What could it be? What was it about her mom? She kept thinking with no one to say what she intended to hear. Just as she was about walking out, her mom walked in. She smiled as she greeted but Kate seemed not to be interested in her greeting until she hear from Kingsley.
Though it was the best opportunity to ask her. It could be that what Kingsley was about saying was not something that could implicate her. Or even make her a suspect.
"Mom!" She called...
"When was the last time you visited Kingsley?"
"Ahhh. I think a week to Alex's wedding...
" What was it about " Kate said with a sly grin.
" You know I do visit Kingsley anytime I was free. I visited that day not because of a specific reason. It was after I visited Alex that I decided to see him. To know how he was doing."
Mrs Rose was right though. She always loved Kingsley and as he was Alex's friend, she assumed him a son and always visited each time he gets to visit Alex. It was fun for her watching the two children as they grew up together, played in sand, on street, even at nights.
It was as a result of their friendship that the two insisted, they should be enrolled in the same college. Even to a point they attended the same university. For that reason, and as a result of their old time relationship, visiting him was not a crime. Moreover, not every uncompleted speech has some implication. And there was no reason suspecting her mom in having a hand in her brother's death.
"Come to think of it" Kate thought...
"While growing up, there was no act about mom that proved he never liked either Kingsley or Alex. If only she never liked Alex, I would have assumed her son fell for her sin".
Kate's long discussion with her mom ended up with she agreeing she works with barrister Josh. Kate believed, with his (barrister Josh) tireless efforts in seeking justice for Kingsley, her assistance will go a long way in finding the truth.
And one thing for sure, barrister Josh was the only person that could see Kingsley anytime he wanted. Even after she talked to her mom, she was still eager to hear what Kingsley was about saying, concerning her mom.
By the time the morning young sun could change its position and set on the middle of the globe, Kate was already prepared to see barrister Josh. Immediately she walked into his office, he seemed to react just as someone who has been waiting for her arrival.
"You are welcome Ms Kate. I've been waiting for your arrival" he said...
That got Kate thinking. How did he manage to know she would visit.
"I can see the reaction on your face ma. You don't have to be surprise. Kingsley told me you would be assisting me in this case...
"Oh! Really?" Kate interrupted
"As far as I could remember. He also said, you might be worried since he was about talking about your mom but was interrupted...
"What did he say about my mom?" Kate interrupted again...
"He said it wasn't something serious. He only wanted to tell you that he forgot to say your mom visited that same week after visiting Alex. But there was nothing about her that could explain any suspected move. Moreover she never left his presence". Barrister Josh concluded.
That alone put Kate at ease. Now that his mom has been vindicated, the only person she never trusted was Marie, and they were staying under the same roof. If truly she was the true villain, then there was no doubt she would have traces of the same poison with her.
Kate suggested barrister Josh brings a search party in their home. But she never wanted it to be that day as she never wanted Marie to suspect they were working together.
By the time Kate got home, it was a quarter to 6pm and the sun was already in the west as it dazzled closer to the deepest part of the west to give the earth a complete darkness.
Throughout the night, Kate could not stop thinking about the next day's search result. By the time she would rise from her bed the next morning, Marie was beside her as she came to tell her of the arrival of a search party in their home.
"Good morning" barrister Josh greeted when Kate and Marie has arrived...
"Due to the current issue regarding Mr Alex's death and the consistent denial of Mr Kingsley in having a hand, we thereby seeked a search warrant regarding the issue to search your home if you would permit us".
" You may proceed ". Mrs Rose said.
" Are going to allow them search our home just like that? " Marie interrupted.
" Why not? Let them search so they will have reasons to believe that Kingsley has been lying all this while ". Kate cut in.
The search party proceeded with the search. it was more than thirty minutes before one of the officers came out with a little dark brownish bottle.
"I found this at the left corner bedroom". He said...
" I think it's poisonous because it have a deadly scent".
" Mom that's your room ". Kate interrupted.
" I'm not in possession of such an item. It doesn't belong to me". Mrs Rose defended.
" I'm sorry ma. But we will have to know the contents of that bottle before getting back to you... I'm sorry Kate". Barrister Josh said as they all walked out. Taking the bottle with them so it would be examined by a physician...

It didn't take long before the officers that left earlier after finding the suspicious bottle in Mrs Rose's room, returned to detain her for questioning.
It seemed Kate's willingness in finding the truth ended up landing her mom in trouble. With the bottle been found in Mrs Rose's room, it seemed she was framed and if truly she's innocent, then the true villain could be somewhere around Alex's house.
Who then could it be?
Kate? Probably No! If she could have a hand in all that was happening, then she wouldn't had been stressing herself to seek justice for her only brother and help clear her lover's name.
Marie? Who knows if she could be the true villain? But if she could be the true villain? But if she could be the true villain, why then would a poison, Alex drank in Kingsley's house be found somewhere around her? Why would she plan to kill Kingsley when he claimed they were never close, and she knew not of the road to her house? Or was it always her plan to kill Alex and frame Kingsley? But why? Why would she want to kill the man she claimed to love?
With all this thoughts regarding Marie, Kate found herself in a devastating state.
"If truly Marie is behind all that's happening, then her worst mistake was when she thought about framing my mom". Kate concluded, believing that with the house surrounded by CCTVs, she will get to know if there could be any capture about Marie walking into her mom's room uninvited. But when she had the thought of how she walked into her mom's room countless times, there was no reason to use that as an evidence. Moreover, CCTVs were not mounted in bedrooms.
Now the two were left together at home, but, there was no suspicious move Kate could find in Marie.
That again gave her a second thought, as Marie seemed also to be worried about her mom's condition. "Could it be that someone else Walked into this house to frame a mother for the death of her son? Or... Was she responsible for it? " The thought of freeing herself from the stress was what Kate had in mind, but then, she had another thought. "If Kingsley could find something suspicious about Marie but know not of how to say it to Alex, then whatever it is, it will help a lot in getting to the truth.
By the time Kate arrived the investigating officers station, Kingsley was brought before her.
It has now been a month and a week after Kingsley's last trial. That's to say that, he has been detained for a month and two weeks. Who knows the kind of bullshit he was passing through. Maybe poor feeding, maybe torture, to make him confess a crime he knew nothing of.
This time, Kate's tears to see Kingsley were not in vain. She was given all the time she needed. Though it wasn't the command given against Kingsley. No one was to see him without been properly investigated.
By the time Kingsley was brought before her, his condition seemed more critical than the last time she visited. A swollen face and eyes were the least of what she could tell concerning his physical appearance.
Silence was all that could be tell when the two sat together.
"So it's all happening?" Kingsley finally broke the silence
"What do you mean?" Kate asked, as she pondered.

Immediately Kingsley heard the voice, he staggered from his seat and laid on the wall as if been pushed by a strong force. It was his mom's voice and there was no way he could forget that voice despite been claimed to have died a month ago.
Immediately she got in through the door, Kate screamed thinking she saw a ghost but she wasn't dead, she needed to assume been dead for the truth to unfold. She never believed his son until a month ago when she saw Marie's mom from the other side of the court's building.
"I'm alive Kingsley... Kate feel my skin and you will know that I'm very much alive". She said...
It took a while before the two were convinced. Though they were happy having her very much alive. But the shock of seeing the one been assumed dead was what couldn't keep them on their seats.
"Why would the doctor lied that you were dead". Kingsley asked...
"I made him to. It was the only way to keep me alive. I tried my best to get to your mom Kate". She said with her gazed been fixed on Kate.
"But there wasn't a way to get to her without been noticed... Luckily, we are here together. I know you have much questions but right now, you have to listen to what I'm about to tell you because if nothing is done about it, you might end up been the next target...

Many years ago... Kingsley's mom began her story...
In a small town occupied by an extreme large number of people. It was a town a town that was known to everyone as a "town of friendly friends". It was called a town of friendly friends because despite known by its lack of available resources, as the population was very large, those that had little were also assisted by friends. Infact everyone was assumed a friend and brother. This same town was beautifully decorated by natural trees. Mahoganies were the least of the trees that were found in it.
Though been beautifully decorated, two religions were known as of then, Christianity and the traditional religion. Though the traditional religion was known as the best as it was implemented before Christianity but it wasn't basically worshipping the gods nor making sacrifices to them. It was known for its justice and the desire to vindicate those that were being framed. The spokesman of the gods was called the spokesman of the Oracle.
In this same small town, this same friendly friends, two friends happened to fall apart just because of a small piece of land. Among this two friends, one of them was your dad (she said referring to Kate). He was called Akor. The other was Marie's dad, Ago.
It happened that, Ago claimed the land Akor was farming on was borrowed by his late father. And the true owner of the land was his father. So now that he had a family of his own, Akor had to return the land to him.
This struggle for a small piece of land led to a crises between this two friends. It got to a point the Zaki of the town intervened, pleading with Ago to let Akor farm on the land. Moreover, he, Ago, had two lands that he was farming on, why not at least allow his friend to farm on the land he claimed was given Akor's father by his late father.
After the Zaki intervened, Ago pretended he harkened to the Zaki's advice. Meanwhile, he had plans on how he would claim the land without anyone seeing it coming.
In the same village, three little best friends were known to have been in touch. Among the three were, Alex, Kingsley, and Marie's older brother. They were five years old as of then, but, they were very smart.
Ago's plan was to eliminate Alex who was the heir to Akor. Alex was only his secondary target. His main target was to take out the heir so that even if he happens to take out Akor, no one will stand his way.
As an elder of the land, Ago knew very well that the gods were so deeply rooted in avenging an eye for an eye. But if it happens that the accused maneuver, he or she will be taken to the spokesman of the Oracle for the gods to avenge for the dead. And if it happens that the accused was however innocent, the true villain will fall right at the shrine and die. If at all he or she is around, but he or she is not around, the curse will however get to wherever he or she was.
This was exactly what happened... After Ago marked out his graph on how he can eliminate Alex, he went to to the only primary school in the town. In that same school, Alex, Kingsley and Ago's only son who happened to be Marie's older brother were pupils of that school.
With some little payment, the storekeeper agreed to receive a poisoned biscuit from him. The intent was to deliver the biscuit to Alex whenever he decids to buy a biscuit at the store.
As the gods may have their way of avenging an eye for an eye, Kingsley wasn't in school that day, And Alex been done with his writing decided to buy a biscuit at the store for his friend. As forces of nature may have it, he wasn't in the mood to share with his friend.
Luckily, the poison had no effect on him that moment but while on their way home, Alex decided he branched to his home and have lunch with him. As children, eating together was the best way they showed their friendship.
It was after he got home after having lunch at Alex's home that the poison had effects on him. When asked of what happened, the only thing he could recall eating was the lunch he had with Alex.
It was a big scandal. Rumor roaming the city that Akor killed his friend's only son just because he claimed the land he was farming on was his.
As of then, Mrs Rose was pregnant. Marie's mom also conceived her. The death of their only son led to a fight between the two families. It was a reputation that was never known in the town. Humans killing other humans? It was never the town's reputation.
But still, the people couldn't take law's into their hands. The gods were to be consulted so the fate of Akor will be decided.
Ago never thought the biscuit he poisoned by his own hands was the same biscuit that killed his son. He admitted sheepishly that the gods should be consulted. He had no reason to believe Akor was innocent.
After the usual ritual, everyone was eager to see Akor lay dead on the floor. Surprisingly, Ago fell instead. That left everyone asking questions. The spokesman of the Oracle consulted the gods and explain to them all that happened even from the start.
It turned out that Marie's older brother invitation by Alex to have lunch was a way of the gods punishing Ago for all the evil deeds he intended committing. His first intent was to kill Alex, his son fell for it. His second intent was Akor, he also fell for that. It was the gods' way of avenging an eye for an eye".

" I now get it all ". Kate interrupted when Kingsley's mom was done narrating her story.
" But I'm a little bit confused... Why then would Marie's mom want revenge even after it was all verified by the gods. I believe Marie is working base on a story her mom narrated to her... Why would she want revenge " Kate asked...
" I think I can narrate that part". Kingsley interrupted...
" I haven't forgotten that part, even as my mom narrated the story to me eight years ago...

After Marie's dad lay dead on the floor, the school storekeeper ran all the way to the shrine. She was struck by severe wounds all over her body. She confessed of how Ago offered some tokens to her. In return for her to help deliver the biscuit to Alex. But unknown to her, Alex's intent was not to consume the biscuit.
Even after the confession, Marie's mom never believed all that was said. She believed the spokesman of the Oracle was bribed by Akor and he ended up killing her husband.
For the sake of peace, Akor left the town after some weeks with his family. He knew no matter how he try to please Marie's mom, she will never believe her husband was responsible for all that happened.
Akor left, leaving the land for Marie's mom but her desire for revenge set in. She believed no matter what she do, it will be a revenge for her only son and her husband's death.
Three years later, I left the town with my mom. Before we left, mom told me everything that happened. I don't think Alex had these story in head after their departure from the village. Your dad never wanted him to know what took place either. It was after we relocated that I got in touch with Alex in the same primary school I was admitted in. But the truth is, your mom knew not of who I am till this moment neither Alex. They only considered me as family because of my friendship to them...

Episode eleven
Five months ago, before Alex's death. These are events that occurred in real time.
It all began when Alex and Marie started dating. From the start, Kingsley never hated Marie. She was beautiful, most of all, she pretended to be kind.
It all happened that, Alex went to a club, there he met Marie. They engaged into a friendly conversation, unknown to him, Marie added some dose in his drink that could make him dizzy. It took not long before the drug had effects on him. The plan was to make herself his friend by pretending to be of assistance.
It so happened that Mrs Rose went to see Alex that day. Seeing a very beautiful lady driving her drunk son back, she became so found of her that very moment. She thought they were dating but it got to her as a surprise when Alex said there was nothing between them.
Marie's decisive moves were too smart for one to foretell. Her motives were that of a very smart person. For that, Alex agreed when his mom persuaded him into having a life together with Marie. From the start, Kingsley was also a very good friend. He and Marie could sometimes chat alone and laugh as best friends.
Two months later, Kingsley began to find something suspicious about Marie. From the start, Marie said she was an orphan. That she grew up all by herself and hustled to make a living all by herself, that she had no family and she knew not of any of her relatives.
But this two months of Alex's relationship with her, Kingsley saw her with a woman he had a feeling he knew somewhere , but he could not say where as he was eight before he left the "friendly friends" town were she also based, as of then. Marie's relationship with this woman seemed like that of a mother and daughter, but there was of no reason accusing her of having a mother when he was not certain.
From that moment, Kingsley began monitoring Marie's moves. He had the feeling Marie was up to something. There was also something he found in her. From the other way round, Marie seemed to love Alex. But whoever the other woman was, she was dragging her into doing something she wished not to ever do.
That got Alex thinking, but he couldn't come up with the conclusion himself. He decided to discuss it with his mom whether to tell Alex or not.
The day marking two months and three weeks of Alex's relationship with Marie, Kingsley had already concluded to discuss everything with his mom. By this time, Alex and Marie already made plans for their wedding and it was to take place in three weeks time.
When Kingsley got to his mom's place, she was already with her memory box, trying to recall her past events. She was about opening it when Kingsley banged into the door.
In the memory box, there was a group picture of Kingsley's mom and other women. Among the women was Marie's mom. Kingsley was still not yet to open up when his mom opened her memory box. The first picture his eyes set on was the group picture...
"Who's this?" He asked.
"You remember the woman whose husband tried poisoning someone, Alex, your friend, but couldn't succeed right. I told you this story years ago. This is the woman...
" When last did you see this woman ". Kingsley interrupted.
" The the day we left that town". His mom said.
" I saw her few days ago and the daughter she was pregnant of is in love with Alex...
"Maybe you are mistaken. As far as I can tell, this woman can never go close to that city. She hated that family and there is no way she will allow her daughter to marry into it". She said with disbelief.
" That's the point mom". Kingsley said...
" She hated that family and now her daughter is in love with the family's first child. That explains one thing. She has been forced to exact revenge for her father and brother. But from the look of things, she truly love Alex but she's trying so hard not to show it".
It took a while before Kingsley and her mom's conversation ended. But she couldn't believe him. She thought he was mistaken. She never assumed all he said never to be possible. Kingsley later got to understand that her name was Patricia.
From that moment on, he decided to monitor Marie and know when she and her mom will be meeting again. When the day finally came and the two were together, Kingsley walked to them. Marie tried pretending not to have anything in common with her but it was too late for pretence.
Kingsley walked up to them and said,
"Hi Patricia... I'm Kingsley, Alex's friend".
She remembered the name Kingsley very well. And for he to know her by her name, she knew without Kingsley been taken care of, they will never achieve their desire. That was how the battle line was drawn between them.
Marie's mom some how maneuvered to poison Kingsley wine. The plan from the starting was to kill the whole family through poison. She always wanted them to suffer what she believed her son and husband passed through because of them. Kingsley was to destroy the plan so the best thing was to take him out of the way first. She thought.
The plan of poisoning Kingsley was arranged only by her. Marie was not aware. Unluckily for Alex, he fell bait to it. It was after Alex's death that Marie decided implicate Kingsley so their cover won't be blown.
It was an unfortunate thing to happen. Kingsley was arrested for something he knew nothing of. And when he was arrested, his mom's thought never went to the direction of what he discussed with her about Patricia. Infact, she never assumed that to be true.
Seeing that Alex fell for what was meant for Kingsley, Patricia knew that taking Kingsley out of the way was not only to kill. Having him stay in prison will also go a long way in aiding their plan. She then instilled in her daughter to lied about having an affair with Kingsley before Alex.
During the trial, Kingsley's mom spotted Patricia. She thought her eyes were deceiving her, Until she was clear of who she saw. Unluckily, Patricia saw her also. It was then that what Kingsley said sometime ago came to her. She knew very well of what will happen if she stays alive. The best way was to pretend being dead for the truth to unfold...

"So it was all a lie to make it look as if you were jealous of their love". Kate asked again...
"I think so". Kingsley said...
"But as far as I can tell, Marie genuinely loved Alex"...
" If she genuinely loved Alex, then I think she might be willing to admit." Kingsley's mom said.
"How?"
"All she needs, is to know the truth about all that happened. As for everyone, I'm dead. It's all left for you Kate. For the sake of your brother and mom, you need to make her a friend so she could know the truth".

The desire for justice set in. Kate was faced with the challenge of drawing Marie's attention on the dangers of her revenge. A revenge without true cause. How was she going to do that?
Marie, who has been the sheep in wolf clothing had no idea her cover was blown. Even as it was assumed that their plan never went as it was supposed to be, it still never mattered to she and her mom. Moreover, Alex was to be killed by the same poison. Though he died not as they planned but, their plan was still not deviated in the process. Alex was dead, Kingsley his best friend, and his mom were implicated in the process.
The only person Patricia, Marie's mom, thought would be an obstacle played been dead, which was Kingsley's mom.
Kate then became the last target. The desire to take her out was what Patricia desired doing, even if it could be the last thing she would ever accomplish.
Two weeks passed after Kate's last conversation with Kingsley and his mom. She was not able to talk to her mom, Mrs Rose, about it because she wasn't permitted to go see her.
Mrs Rose in her early 70s was detained for a crime she knew nothing about when she thought of how a poisonous bottle got into her room without trace, she believed Kate was right after all. But one thing she couldn't figure out was why Marie will go as far as implicating her when she ended up killing her son. The man she claimed to love.
Kate's moves to make Marie a friend and lighten her path on the dangers of her blind revenge proved abortive. But then, she remembers that she and Marie were never best of friends even from the start. If she was to open her eyes about her blind revenge, then she would achieve that even with a little thoughtful conversation.
While the morning sun was glowing one morning and the dry wind surfaces the Earth, Marie made breakfast as usual. Without anyone calling Kate out, she was out and was set as if she had been waiting for it for ages before it finally arrived.
After Mrs Rose was arrested, the two never engaged in a serious conversation but this time, Kate tried to make her engaged.
"I remember the time we were four on this dinning table" she said...
"One has gone to a place of no return. One might return".
Marie tried not to be interested but she, Kate, continued...
"There's something I always wanted to say to you, Marie...
" Mmmhmm". Marie snickered.
"You know, when you said you suspected Kingsley because he was jealous of bro Alex and he wanted to punish you for turning him down, I was angry because I never knew Kingsley to be that kind of person. For that, I suspected there might be something you have been hiding. But when my mom was arrested, I knew not of who to blame anymore. I don't even know if she is guilty or not... I'm very sorry for saying bad things against you". Kate said with her gazed fixed on her.
When it seemed Marie had no conscience, I wasn't that way after all. She was touched by Kate's words and she, Kate, sensed it in her eyes. She wanted to say something but she knew not of how to say it. Gradually, Kate was drawing her attention and she couldn't let that opportunity pass by. She knew it would be right to remind her of her brother's love...
"Alex was a brother I cherished a lot". She continued...
"I loved him with all my heart. But now that he is no more, my life will still continue. If Kingsley end up being innocent, we might end up being a fine couple and the sorrows of losing a brother will soon pass away when I move into another family... From the start, I thought no one shared my sorrows but now, I realize that yours is greater than mine. You are carrying his child. It could be a girl or boy. What I'm imagining right now is the stress you will pass through in bringing up this child alone ". Kate paused for a while and stared at Marie who was trying so hard to hide her tears.
It was the right time to brighten her passed family history. Knowing fully well that it will be better if she put it in an indirect way , she said...
" When I was in a taxi, I overheard some women sharing their encounter in a small town as of then called the friendly friends...
"Friendly friends... What about it" Marie finally spoke up.
"Are you familiar with it". Kate pretended not to know of it either.
"It's just that eem... I'm just too curious to know the story behind the name". She said...
"What about it".
"They only talked about how the gods as of then were strict in their judgements".
" What kind of judgement ".
" An eye for an eye type ". Kate said...
" An eye for an eye... How!" Marie asked. This time, she was so interested in listening.
"They shared a story about a man who tried poisoning his friend's son, but his son fell for it. He went as far as accusing his friend by taking him to the shrine so the gods can strike him dead but he ended up being dead...
"His name... What is the dead man's name". This time, Marie was getting nervous. The story was similar to his cause for revenge. It was in the same town but the cause of the man's death was different from what she was told.
"I don't know the names of the families. They never mentioned names". Kate concluded before he left the dinning table.
That really got Marie thinking. What was it about what she heard and what Marie narrated. What was it that she knew not of? She thought...

The long hidden villain got exposed. Patricia, whose identity was never exposed, got exposed the moment Kate narrated some tale she lied to have heard from two women to Marie. The moment she, Marie couldn't figure out if Kate was right or not about her story, she went to sought things out from her mom.
Now, Kingsley's mom knew exactly what will happen if Kate were to open Marie's eyes on her blind cause for vengeance. She knew she would try to confront her mom and if possible, she, Patricia will try diverting the story in a wrong way to make Marie believe she was never wrong about all she has been feeding her with.
Kate was able to trace Marie to her mom's location. Luckily, she wasn't caught in the process. Marie had no idea she was traced, and as she went, her energy was focused on what her mom will say about what she heard.
As assumed, it happened exactly that way. Patricia tried convincing her that what she heard was a different story. She went as far as saying the story was from another town. Though she confessed that her town was also called the friendly friends town.
Marie had reasons to believe her mom but something in her, her conscience made her feel there was something she knew not of. "If Kate could narrate a story like that to her without mentioning any name, then that means she had no idea they ever lived in a town called the friendly friends". She thought... "And if she had no idea about her family's past, then why would she exact revenge on her when she had no idea her mom believed her family was a suspect in her dad and brother's death. Even if the story happens to be true, and if truly she ends up going as she planned with her mom, then what about the child she carries. Would her mom still go as far as telling her to terminate the child? "
This time, Marie was beginning to understand why the revenge was never necessary even in the first place. But she believed she went too far for her to stop. But one thing she won't tolerate was if her mom would try harming her child. Her reckless revenge ended up killing the man she truly loved but on her mom's words, ended up doing what she believed was right.
By the time Marie left, Kate contacted Kingsley's mom to tell her how she successfully had a conversation with Marie. As for Kingsley's mom, she knew that the only way to divert Marie's intention was to make her realize that her mom was only using her and it wasn't too late to do the needful. If only she loved her, then she wouldn't had drawn her into doing something that would land her into a big problem if she were to be caught. The plan was to turn mom against her daughter using love tricks.
It took only few hours before Marie returned from her mom's home. It was a rented two bedrooms flat. It was a small bushy building that wasn't fenced after all. It turned out that Patricia ended up not being rich. Her cause for vengeance was not because she believed Akor had a hand in her husband and son's death, infact, she knew very well that her husband, Ago, was behind everything. She was talked into it and they planned everything together. It was jealousy that made her turn her husband against his friend by making him claim a land that wasn't his. It was the same jealousy that ended up engrossing her mind. She wasn't rich and seeing as the family she hated so much ended up having everything they needed, she was willing to do anything just to see their end.
When Marie got back home, Kingsley's mom was still around. Not that it was a mistake for Marie to see her around. She wanted her to meet her so she would know how dangerous her mom will be to a point, she (Kingsley's mom) will pretend being dead so she would not go after her.
When Marie got into the room and saw her sitting right in front of Kate, she screamed. She had no idea she was alive. She thought it was her ghost and she was the only one that saw it. She started shouting and pointing at her,
"Kate! Kate!! Kate!!!
" Calm down what is it". Kate interrupted when Marie started behaving weirdly. She forgot that moment that Kingsley's mom claimed been dead. By the time she would realize why Marie was screaming her name, she started saying weird things again...
" I swear I had no idea my mom poisoned Kingsley. The plan was never to poison him...
"Calm down Marie. I'm alive". Kingsley's mom finally interrupted... It was that moment that, it got to Kate what Marie's scream was all about. Marie ended up letting the cat out of the bag herself. There was no way she would deny it after all. Even after Kingsley's mom spoke up, she thought it was a trick to avenge her son's punishment. It was after Kate spoke up that she realized she fooled herself.
"She's alive Marie. Believe me! I can also see her". She said.
It took a while before Marie agreed to sit down, but still, she couldn't calm down. It all felt like a dream. She wished someone would tap and wake her up but everything felt like a reality and she could feel her with her two bare hands.
Marie always knew that if Kingsley's mom were to be alive, her mom would have gone as far as trying to silent her. There was no reason to ask why she pretended being dead, and with her confession there was no way she would deny all that happened when she confessed right in their presence.
Tears welled down her eyes when she couldn't withstand their presence. She wished the ground to swallow her but that never happened. Rising from her seat, she tried going on her knees to confess everything but Kate prevented that from happening.
"You don't have to". She said...
As she sat back on her seat, she said,
"What are you now going to do? Call the police?"
"Yes! But after telling you the truth" Kingsley's mom said...
"I can't say how much your mom hated you. You lived all these years depending on a lie. Have you ever wondered if there were to be a survivor in this family? You haven't... If only you have ever thought about that, you would have known that revenge is only for the weak, and if there comes a survivor, he or she will try doing the same and vice versa. It's a continuous process.
So yes, I will call the police. It is the only way we can avenge so that the offsprings of this family will not fall for the same lie you fell for..

Episode fourteen (semifinal)
Marie knew exactly what Kingsley's mom was up to She knew she was never going to let the sleeping dog lie. Immediately after their conversation and Marie's confession, Barrister Josh came in with some cops and arrested Marie.
It took just few minutes before she called her mom and told her about her arrest. The same mom she claimed not to have. Minutes later, Patricia walked into the station. The plan was moving smoothly. Kate had to go off sight, otherwise there was no doubt Patricia will do all she could to hunt her down.
Patricia got to the station and she was directed to where Marie was kept in custody. It got to her as a surprise. The daughter she spoke with hours ago called claiming she was in police custody. When she got to the station, she expected that not to be true, but, surprisingly, Marie was brought to her in cuffs.
As Marie was taken into the detective room, Patricia followed to know how she ended up being in cell. Patricia seemed to be very disappointed and Marie could read it all over her.
"How did you end up being caught". She asked expressing an unfamiliar altitude...
"The knew everything mom... They knew that I'm behind everything that happened...
"How?" Patricia interrupted
"Kingsley's mom...
" Enhe! What about her...
"She was never dead"... Marie said...
"She pretended to be dead just to put us behind the hook. When I got back after visiting you, I saw her in our living room and thought she was a ghost then I began to confess, unknown to me, they were recording...
"Did you mention my name?" Patricia interrupted
"I didn't...
" Good! Now listen to me carefully. You told them you are an orphan so you have to stick around with that...
"I don't understand mom. You were the one that made me to go ahead with this revenge of a thing, so far, you are behind all that has happen. Why don't you tell the cops the truth so that you precious daughter will be free...
Hey! Hey!! Hey!!! So far as I can tell, I lost my whole family the moment my husband and son lost their lives. All I wanted was revenge but you never did it right. How then did you expect me to call you my daughter. You failed to exact revenge on the people that killed your father and brother... You allowed yourself to be caught up between the hooks...
"You are wrong mom, Akor was never behind my dad's death. Your jealousy got us to this point and now you want me to pay for all you have done...
"I never said that... I never said you will pay for all I have done. You should try playing yourself out of this place if not, you will pay for all you have done, not me. You need to pretend that we never knew each other and it is a crime you committed that landed you into this. But in case you survive, I will be preparing a welcome feast for you at home...
"Mom please. You don't have to do this"... Marie said when she saw that Patricia never intended doing anything to set her free.
"So you expect me to go out there and tell everyone that I was the one that poisoned Kingsley and that I played you into placing the poison in your stupid mother-in-law's room... Ok fine, I did it, but, you will be the last person that will ever hear it. I don't know you and you don't know me. I will be somewhere at the edge of the court in a month time watching as you will be charged against murder and false accusation. Do you know what that means? You will be sentenced to life imprisonment and the people you couldn't take out will be released and you will suffer for this simple task that you failed to accomplish...
"That's enough mom... I now know you have been playing me". Marie said trying to control her tears.
"But before you go, can I please ask you one last question? "
" Go ahead ". Patricia said as if waiting for it.
" About my unborn child... Would you have told me to terminate it after succeeding in our plan? "
" Why not...
"What if I refused".
"I would have used a knife to tear it out of your stomach...
"I would have died...
" I know". Patricia said confidently.
"I see. But before you walk out, I want you to know that you sacrificed a daughter that was willing to do anything just to make you happy".
"I know, that's the reason why you have to pay for my crimes so I will be a free woman". Patricia said as she walked out, leaving her daughter in tears.
Minutes later, Kingsley's mom walked in. Before Patricia could walk into the detective room, a recording tape was mounted to record her conversation with Marie. The whole arrest from the beginning was false. It was intended only to prove to Marie that her mom was only using her, and to prove to her what would have happened if she were to be caught alone.
Marie could not help but only shed tears. If only one would say how her mom would turn against her in that critical moment, she wouldn't had believed but then, it happened right in her presence. It got to her as a surprise especially when she said she was willing to go as far as pulling an unborn child out of her by force.
Kate tried consoling Marie but the best thing to do was to let her sob out her sorrows. Who on Earth will believe that? A mother turning against her daughter even when she was behind all she was doing... Marie's pains were beyond what they could ever imagine. An innocent man that genuinely loved her was gone just like that... The punishment was more than a jail term...

Kate and Kingsley's mom knew that taking Marie back home would have effects on their plan. From all she said and all she has been doing,there was no doubt she was willing to do anything just to take out the three and then go into extinction. The best thing to do was to let her stay into custody as it was the best way to prevent Patricia from getting to her.
Same applied to Kate and Kingsley's mom, they had to go off sight to avoid been caught up by Patricia's evil plans. The intention was never to arrest Patricia that moment but spies were mounted to watch over her in case she would try sneaking out of the town for the fear that Marie would say something that would implicate her
But it turned out that Patricia was never scared at all. She showed no fear in her motives and she was absolutely courageous in her actions. Maybe it was because she had plans of her own. What could it be? Or, was she only trying to prove that she was fearless in her actions?.
It took not long before Patricia's spies knew what her courageous motives were all about. She was always in and out of a hospital. But they could not go in with her, so they knew not of what she was planning to do.
In a month time, Kingsley was brought in for his last trial. This time, he wasn't brought in alone. Alex's mom was also brought in cuffs. Just as Patricia promised, she was sitting at the other end of the court where she won't be spotted easily.
When the two were brought in, she was surprised as Marie was also not brought in cuffs. In fact, Marie was not present. That really got her very confused. "What could be the delay". She thought.
In less than ten minutes, the hearing was called into order and the jury began. At that moment, there was nothing Kingsley, nor Mrs Rose would say. But before before the jury could pronounce his last judgement, Barrister Josh called his witness in. And the witness turned out to be Marie. The three got in together, Marie, Kate and Kingsley's mom.
Immediately she got into the court, she knew where her mom would be sitting. She was scared she might sneak out but she never made an attempt to. Infact there was no slight of fear in her. It turned out that Patricia's in and out of that hospital was because she wanted to forge her own DNA result so that if Marie would try implicating her that she was her mother, she would present the fake DNA result and if that of Marie never matches with hers, then it will be clear it was all lies been put in place to implicate her and the three will end up going to prison. She then will have only two powerless people to deal with, Kate and Kingsley's mom. But she was unaware that her last conversation with Marie was recorded. No Matter what she does, the rope was already on her neck and it was only left for it to be tightened.
Marie narrated the whole story she knew, beginning from how her mom lied to her, how she ended up being in love with Kingsley, how her mom ended up poisoning Kingsley but only for Alex to fall bait to it and how she ended up placing the traces of the poison in Mrs Rose's room.
When asked who her mom was and where she would be that moment, she said,
"She's here. Right there". She said pointing at Patricia
All eyes where on Patricia it was at that point that Kate's mom, Mrs Rose got an eye contact with Patricia after so many years of her departure from the friendly friends town. Patricia was the least of the people she ever thought would be behind all that ever happened. Infact, she already forgot what happened between her late husband and Ago, which was the reason she never bothered telling her children.
"Patricia!" She exclaimed
"Kate what's going on here...
" Exactly what you refused to tell me".
The whole court was becoming noisy and the jury had to call it order.
" Mrs Patricia or whatever you are called, what do you have to say about these charges that has been raised against you". He said...
" As far as I can tell, all this lady has say, they're nothing but lies". Patricia lied.
" Two weeks back, this lady met and pleaed with me to pretend being his mom today but I had no intention this is what she was trying to play me into. But I had this feeling that she was up to something. So before I arrived here, I got my DNA test from my doctor, Incase, if things go wrong".
" Heaven and Earth knows that will be a lie Patricia ". Mrs Rose interrupted when she couldn't stand the lie, but she was cut short by the chief justice...
" So Ms. Marie, going by what Mrs Patricia here said, you not only lied to us but you tried playing her into a crime she knew nothing about... Well, that's just that, before I conclude on my statement, I would like to get a sample of your own DNA test... What do you think ". He said referring to Marie.
" That won't be necessary my lord". Marie said...
There is something I forgot to mention and I have evidence".
It was the least Patricia ever expected. A recording of her last conversation with Marie.
There was no way she would say further, in the detective room was also a CCTV. It was also presented in a video format. The clever Patricia turned out to be played after all. There was no way she would run away from her punishment. She ended up confessing that the DNA was forged.
A punishment of hanging till death was pronounced and that was where Patricia's jealousy led her to. Marie was to serve a year jail term, but Kingsley's and Mrs Rose been the victims pleaded on her behalf and she was pardoned.
Six months later, Marie gave birth to a set of twins, a boy and a girl. At first, she was always sorry and thought the family would hold grudges against her but they were not like her mom. They knew that what she did was a mistake and they forgave her for it.
Kate later moved in with Kingsley and they became husband and wife. Their marriage was blessed with love and understanding. The two families became united as ever and there was no one to disrupt their peace anymore. Patricia was gone and her evil plans gone along along with her...
The law of karma is real, don't tempt it. And most of all, always be careful in your actions.
